Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Smash Bros Ultimate sold over 1.2 million physical copies in Japan during its first three days on sale.

That’s according to Japanese gaming outlet Famitsu (as translated by Gematsu). The figure for the fighter puts it just behind Pokemon when it comes to Nintendo’s all-time best-sellers during the opening week.

That also makes it the highest opening week for a Nintendo Switch game in the country.

Smashing stuff

Super Smash Bros Ultimate has been sold as the definitive version of the long-running franchise, featuring every character the series has ever included. These sales figures reportedly do not include digital copies.

Famitsu reports that Ultimate helped boost sales of the Nintendo Switch in Japan, with the console selling 278,313 units domestically during launch week, compared to 107,450 units the week prior.
