Halo: The Master Chief Collection to get ‘mixtape matchmaking’

“Mixtape matchmaking,” a type of playlist preferencing seen in Titanfall 2, will soon be joining Halo: The Master Chief Collection by popular request, according to the game’s community manager.

On Thursday (via Kotaku), Brian Jarrard, the 343 Industries community director, told players he’d seen a work-in-progress of “a ‘mix tape’ style feature for MCC matchmaking.” That was followed Friday with an off-screen shot of the game’s Match Composer screen and further info about its options.

Mixtape matchmaking would be especially useful to The Master Chief Collection because it spans four different games in the Halo series, providing more eras and maps than the typical multiplayer shooter. Players suggested adopting it a year ago, noting that it would be a big assist for those looking for underplayed playlists or games within the collection.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection got a rejuvenating update — the largest since the game launched in November 2014 — at the end of August. Among many other features, it delivered Xbox One X enhancements (for 4K resolution and HDR output) to its four remastered games, plus the Halo 3: ODST campaign. The Master Chief Collection was also added to the Xbox Game Pass subscription library last month.
