Fortnite’s leaked Freeze Traps will slow and damage opponents

Fortnite keeps springing leaks since the launch of season 6, and now we’ve got the premature reveal of a new trap type. Dataminers have uncovered Freeze Traps in the game files, so it looks like you’ll be giving unsuspecting opponents a frosty bad time soon.

The Freeze Trap is set to be a capital-R Rare that “hits all enemies on trap when triggered doing small damage and slowing players.” That should give you a chance to take advantage of your opponent’s limited mobility to either make an escape or finish the job yourself. No word on specific damage values, slow rates, or debuff times just yet.

This datamine comes courtesy of FNBRLeaks on Twitter. As always when we’ve got a leak of this nature, it bears repeating that there’s been no confirmation from Epic when or if the new feature is coming. The trap’s presence in the game files only suggests that it’s been in some stage of development for battle royale.

Freeze Traps are already part of Fortnite in the game’s original Save the World configuration, and they’ll likely have a similar appearance in Battle Royale. In the PvE mode, they freeze enemies in place altogether – but that’s likely a step too far for PvP.

Other recent leaks have revealed a Capture the Flag mode and Oktoberfest skins – the latter are already in the item shop. We’ll see how soon Freeze Traps follow suit as more updates hit the new season.
