Best Resident Evil Games Ranked – Guide
Resident Evil is one of those classic franchises which will more than likely keep on going until either Capcom or the video game industry is no more. Starting life on Sony’s PSone, it has gone through a number of changes and refinements throughout the decades, drastically switching perspectives, characters, and locations. Each and every entry brings something new to the table, but which one is the best? We’ve decided to rank the core, numbered instalments from best to worst — giving you an idea of which title you should play next in the series. Without further ado, these are the very best Resident Evil games on the market right now.

We start with where it all began — even before the Mansion incident. Resident Evil Zero is incredibly middle of the road. Following Rebecca Chambers and convict Billy Coen, it’s an entry that just about manages to hold up today thanks to a PlayStation 4 HD remaster, but it also sticks to the classic mechanics of tank controls and fixed camera angles. Fans of that PSone style are sure to get a kick out of proceedings, but this initial tale aboard an undead train is more inessential than anything else. Worthy of a playthrough if you’ve got the time, but you wouldn’t be missing out on too much if you passed on it.

Resident Evil 6 is quite possibly the most insulting entry of the lot. Almost entirely ditching the survival horror elements the franchise is known for, this amalgamation of campaigns takes action and a healthy supply of bullets and runs with it. In doing so, however, it does manage to somewhat carve out its own identity. Packed full of flashy melee moves and enjoyable gunplay, Resident Evil 6 is a game for those who screw their nose up at inventory management and route planning. It’s an okay game, but the series is so much better than that.

The Resident Evil 3: Nemesis experience will rank much higher in less than six months, but at the time of writing, its PS4 remake has not yet arrived. Jill Valentine stars in this PSone classic as she attempts to escape Raccoon City, chased by the terrifying Nemesis itself. The monster would surprise Jill at inopportune times and leave the player with a choice of either fighting the Tyrant or escaping and leaving the battle for another time. It was a cool concept for 1999, which combined with characteristic Resident Evil survival horror, made for an experience that’s still worth bearing witness to today. Although, it’s about to get a whole lot better come 3rd April 2020.

Chris Redfield is back, but is he better than ever? Resident Evil 5 was the first in the series to introduce co-op into the mix, with a fully playable Sheva Alomar for a friend to jump in and play as. And for what it’s worth, it was a rather great game to boot. Even more action-oriented than its predecessor but not quite as in your face as Resident Evil 6, it still made room for a scare here and there. The series might have been a bit all over the place once it reached the PlayStation 3, but Resident Evil 5 was certainly one of its highs.
