Aladdin’s Grammys trailer finally reveals Will Smith’s very blue Genie

The newest Aladdin trailer, which debuted during the 2019 Grammys, brings us to a whole new world. And it’s, uh, a little shocking.

The live-action remake of Disney’s popular 1992 animated feature stars Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan) as Aladdin, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Jasmine and Will Smith (Men in Black) as the one and only Genie. Opposite the three leads is Marwan Kenzari (The Mummy) as scheming vizier Jafar. New characters include Nasim Perdad (Saturday Night Live) as Dalia, Jasmine’s loyal handmaiden, and Billy Magnussen (Ingrid Goes West) as Prince Anders, one of Jasmine’s suitors. A previous teaser showed off the Agrabah landscape and ended with Aladdin reaching for the lamp.

In this new trailer, we get to see more of the characters in action. An Entertainment Weekly story revealed their costumes and discussed Will Smith’s inspiration for Genie — but Genie was not blue.

In this trailer, he … is. He’s very blue. And muscular. And he has Will Smith’s face. Wow!

Aladdin is the second of three Disney remakes headed to theaters in 2019. It comes out on May 24.
