Xbox Games With Gold free games for April 2019 announced

April’s lineup of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers doesn’t offer any recent heavy hitters on Xbox One, but the throwback games on Xbox 360 and the original Xbox are the highlights of the list.

During the first half of the month, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 — the 2005 Xbox shooter from the now-defunct Pandemic Studios and LucasArts — will be available free via Xbox Games With Gold. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, which was originally released in 2007 on the Xbox 360, will be the free game from April 16-30. Both will be playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.

Speaking of the Xbox One, the first free game will be 2016’s The Technomancer, a sci-fi action RPG from the French studio Spiders. It will be available all month long for Gold subscribers. Outcast – Second Contact, a 2017 remake of a cult classic from 1999 by Belgian developer Appeal, will be free from April 16 through May 15.

In the meantime, Gold members can still pick up some of the March games.

Update (April 1): In Microsoft’s announcement video for the April Games With Gold titles, which you can watch above, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb says that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will offer “multiple online gameplay modes.” However, Microsoft shut down Xbox Live for the original Xbox nearly nine years ago.

Asked for clarification, a Microsoft representative told Polygon on Monday that “the GWG video contains an error: While Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will support offline multiplayer offerings, there are no online multiplayer experiences supported.”
