Online map for Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode marks loot and vehicle spawns

There’s now an (unofficial) interactive map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode, Blackout.

Simply called Blackout Map, it is a Google Maps-style interpretation of the mode’s landmass. It includes potential spawn points for vehicles, including ultra-rare helicopters, as well as zombies, Mystery Boxes and stashes. Fans can use the map to place pins and mark routes, even adding custom text to the map. They can then send creations to their friends as custom links. The map works in a browser, so you can have it open on your phone or tablet while you play.

Blackout Map follows in a long tradition of fan-made interactive maps for survival- and battle royale-style games. One of the first games to get the treatment was DayZ, which now has multiple map projects of varying degrees of quality. There are also maps for Ark: Survival Evolved, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite.

Communities differ in opinion on whether or not these kinds of maps are fair. Personally, I feel that games such as DayZ and Ark, which are played at a much slower pace and put a premium on exploration, don’t require these kinds of resources. For PUBG and Blackout, however, given the more rapid pace of play, I’m all about it. Your mileage may vary.
