Metro Exodus leaving Steam for Epic Games Store

Just a month before release, the publisher makes a big switch

With under a month to go until the PC launch of Metro Exodus, publisher Deep Silver has announced that the game will be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store going forward.

The digital PC version of the game will now only be available via the Epic store, and will remain there exclusively for one year. It is said that Epic takes a smaller cut from sales of a game, and to compliment this, the price has been reduced by $10 on the new store.

Any customer with an outstanding pre-order for Metro Exodus on PC through any digital retailer will still receive their game on that platform, so fans on Steam who have preordered over the past year will still get the game there.

Valve, the owners of the Steam platform, have also issued a statement on the game’s page, which reads: “The developer and publisher have assured us that all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam.”

“We think the decision to remove the game is unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period. We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale through the February 15th release date, but we were only recently informed of the decision and given limited time to let everyone know,” they added.

While Metro Exodus is not the first game to announce that the PC version will be exclusive to the Epic Games store, it’s certainly the first to make the switch so close to launch, and after already being available on Steam for a long time.
