FIFA 19: New Icons list – every new and returning legend

A new season has started and hype for FIFA 19 is hotting up. Icons have grown to be an integral of Ultimate Team, so to help out with your Concept Squads, we’ve put together a FIFA 19 Icons list that rounds up all the new Icons joining this year, as well as the returning legends from FIFAs past.

FIFA 19 FUT New Icon ratings:

Paul Scholes –
When Xavi and Zidane say someone’s the best midfielder in the world, you kind of have to take notice. King of the late challenge Paul Scholes makes his FIFA 19 debut with strong ratings that reflect his world-class passing, long shots and surprising strength.

Ryan Giggs –
Another Manchester United legend, the Welsh Wizard Ryan Giggs is set to bring his electric pace, glue-like touch, and pin-point crossing to FIFA 19 Ultimate Team.

Hristo Stoichkov –
The ‘94 Ballon d’Or winner bagged the Golden Boot at the World Cup in the USA in the same year. Stoichkov was the complete forward during this prolific time with Barcelona, an iron fist in a velvet glove. His sky high ratings perfectly capture his incredible physical and technical ability.

Christian Vieri –
One-time world’s most expensive player Christian Vieri was as good a goalscorer as anyone when he was fully fit. Vieri’s ratings look like they’d suit FIFA perfectly, with over 80 for pace, shooting, dribbling and physical.

George Best –
Best is renowned as one of the greatest dribblers of the ball ever, with a mammoth dribbling rating of 94 of his Prime card. Exceptional pace, shooting and crossing round out an incredible looking FIFA card. Best appeared in FIFA 16 and 17, but returns in FIFA 19 after a year off.

Jens Lehmann –
Jens Lehmann minded the net for one of the greatest club teams ever: Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal Invincibles. His Prime card has great positioning, reflexes and handling, which should make him a strong stopper in-game.

Michael Ballack –
Ballack’s Prime card looks like an absolute monster. Over 80 in every stat with a huge 90 shooting, Germany’s home world cup captain is also 6 foot 2, so he has potential to become a Weekend League and Esports team regular.

Luis Figo –
Portugal’s leading appearance maker until a little-know guy called Cristiano came along, Luis Figo turned out from Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter in a glittering 20-year career. Figo was a technical genius, which is shown by his Prime ratings of 92 for dribbling, 89 for passing and 88 for shooting.

Gennaro Gattuso –
Fiery Milan manager Rino Gattuso was a top-notch chopper in his day, winning the Champions League twice with the Rossoneri. His baby card looks like it could be good value, since it’ll be cheaper because of his 85 overall and 73 pace. It has 90 defending and 88 physical though, which could be a really OP combo in the middle of the park.

Socrates –
The Doctor is a hipster football favourite – and with good reason. Socrates was a supreme playmaker, and captained Brazil during an era that’s considered one of their very best. His Prime card ratings look incredible with 84 pace and physical, and over 90 for shooting, passing and dribbling.

Roberto Baggio –
Italian Legend Baggio won the Ballon d’Or in 1993, so it’s fitting that his Prime rating is 93. His supreme technical ability is represented by 90 or above for dribbling on all of his cards.

Raul –
Raul Blanco is the record appearance holder for Real Madrid, and you don’t get that honor without being a special player. His FIFA stats look dead suited to making space and finishing off attacks, with high ratings for both shooting and dribbling.

Emilio Butragueno –
One of fastest players of his time, Butragueno is a Real Madrid legend and part of Quinta del Buitre, a group of Los Blancos academy players that helped Madrid to win five league titles in a row during the ‘80s. Pace and shooting are always a deadly combo in FIFA, especially with short and agile players – Butragueno should be an amazing card to use.

Ruud van Nistelrooy –
Anyone with a passing interest in noughties football will remember the deadly Dutchman’s incredible scoring record at both Manchester United and Real Madrid. At 6 foot 2, with 86 pace, 82 physical, 91 shooting and 85 dribbling, van Nistelrooy’s prime card promises to be a bit of a tank.

David Trezeguet –
World Cup winner David Trezeguet was quick, strong and clinical, scoring hatfuls of goals for The Old Lady on their way to back-to-back Scudettos in 2001 and 2002. Trezeguet’s all-round game will be especially strong combined with his 6 foot 3 frame.

Gianfranco Zola –
A quality goalscorer and creative force in both the Premier League and Serie A, Gianfranco Zola won countless fans for his mesmerizing dribbling ability and eye for goal. Zola’s height combined with his speed and agility will make his lightning across the ground in FIFA, so he should be a fun Icon to use.

Gary Lineker –
After completing probably the most successful transition from player to pundit ever, it’s easy to forget how great of a player UK Match of the Day host Gary Lineker was. With a record bettering one-in-two for both club and country, Lineker was a clinical finisher and top-class goal poacher.

Miroslav Klose –
A lot of legends are synonymous with one club, but Miroslav Klose is most famous for his achievements with Germany. As the record holder for the most goals at World Cup finals, Klose is a great target man and quality finisher.

Clarence Seedorf –
In a glittering career, Clarence Seedorf won the Champions League four times with three different clubs: first with Ajax, then Real Madrid, then twice with AC Milan. As a 91 rated CAM, Seedorf has 80+ for every stat other than defending, which he has a still respectable 68.

Claude Makelele –
When Makelele left Real for Chelsea, Zinedine Zidane likened his departure to selling the engine out of a Ferrari. One of his cards is farmed out on the right wing, but the possibility of using a Prime Makelele and N’golo Kante in the same midfield is very enticing indeed.

Pavel Nedved –
A supremely talented winger, Pavel Nedved is considered one of Juve’s greatest players, even staying with them when they were relegated to Serie B after the Calciopoli scandal. Nedved’s powerful athletic attributes and technical skill will make him more than a handful down the left.

Roy Keane –
The best thing about Roy Keane returning to FIFA is the unbridled rage that he undoubtedly feels at the prospect of people “wasting their time” playing as him in a game. The defensive side of the combustible midfielder’s game is almost unparalleled with high 80s for defending and physical for all three of his cards.

Juan Sebastian Veron –
The Little Witch of Estudantes was near unplayable during his time in Serie A, where he ran the engine room of a cup winning Parma side, as well as the Lazio team that pipped Juve to the Italian title by one point.

Hidetoshi Nakata –
The “Japanese David Beckham” retired early to focus on fashion, but he was a classy player all the same. Quick and skillful, Nakata is definitely a lesser-known Icon in the west. That might mean he’s a little cheaper to use.

Franco Baresi –
Together with Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi epitomises the art of Italian defending: unbeatable positional awareness combined with hard, but graceful, tackling. Baresi has an imperious 95 rating for defending on his Prime card, but at 5 foot 9, he might not be the easiest to use.

Bobby Moore –
Pele once remarked that West Ham legend Bobby Moore was the best defender he’d ever faced – and that’s some high praise. His World Cup winning Prime card has 93 defending, placing him among the best in FIFA.

Fernando Hierro –
Spain may have left the World Cup 2018 early, but Madrid Icon Fernando Hierro still has a golden playing career to look back on, which included three Champions Leagues in four years with Los Blancos. Like Bobby Moore, Hierro has a stonewall 93 defending on his Prime card.

Fabio Cannavaro –
Fabio Cannavaro’s Prime card looks insane. With 95 defending, 85 physical and 80 pace, Cannavaro should be able to keep up with nippy attackers and dominate all but the very best. The incumbent Guangzhou Evergrande manager deserves his mammoth rating too, he won both the World Cup and Ballon d’Or in 2006.

Sol Campbell –
When you declare yourself “one of the greatest minds in football”, you’d better have something to back it up – luckily for Sol Campbell, he does. Thanks to his athletic, no-nonsense defence, Campbell nailed down a spot as an England stalwart, before later going on to become a key member of Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles. With over 80 pace on all of his cards, Campbell will be great paired with a more technical centre back.

Johan Cruyff –
Total Football maestro Johan Cruyff won the Ballon d’Or three times in the ‘70s after driving Ajax to win three consecutive European Cups and the Dutch National Team to second place in the 1974 World Cup. Cruyff’s Prime Card is over 90 rated in pace, shooting, dribbling and passing – a deadly combination in the opponent’s final third.

Eusebio –
World Cup Golden Boot and early Ballon d’Or winner Eusebio was a quick and deadly striker who scored more goals than he played league games in an over decade long career with Benfica. All of his cards have ratings of over 90 in pace, shooting and dribbling, so it’s safe to say he’s going to be quite good.

Rivaldo –
Sadly better known these days for his terrible playacting, Rivaldo was an incisive and athletic forward with supreme control and a powerful shot. All of his cards have a great mix of shooting, dribbling, passing and pace – plus he’s 6 foot 2, so should have good presence on the pitch to make up for his high seventies rated physical.

Steven Gerrard –
Current Rangers manager and long-time Liverpool skipper Stevie G returns to FIFA after retiring from LA Galaxy in 2017. With 90 shooting and passing, and 84 physical on his Prime card, Gerrard is sure to run the midfield and chip in with plenty of screamers.

Frank Lampard –
Still somehow underrated despite being ever present for club and country, Lampard scored ten or more goals from midfield in ten consecutive seasons for Chelsea before moving on to MLS after a brief spell at Man City. All of his cards have exceptional shooting, passing and dribbling, which – combined with his decent pace and physical – should make him a great card to use.

That’s not every Icon in FIFA 19 though, there are 40 returning legends to slot into your dream team too. Their stats are the same as FIFA 18 though, so we’ll just list their ratings below:
