EA Sports Closely Monitoring Cristiano Ronaldo Allegations

Juventus forward and global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is embroiled in a scandal, and it’s reached the point where some of his principal sponsors have been forced to come out and comment. Alongside sportswear giant Nike, publisher EA Sports has said that it’s “closely monitoring the situation” after rape allegations emerged against the footballer. Ronaldo is the face of the recently released FIFA 19, featuring on the cover of the game and in commercials.

The Portuguese striker has been accused of raping an American teacher in 2009. Writing on social media, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player denied the allegations, stating that his conscious will allow him “to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations”. His current club Juventus has spoken out in defence of the player, honouring his “great professionalism and dedication”. Of course, it’s got a £100 million investment to protect.

In response to the media frenzy, EA Sports issued the following statement: “We have seen the concerning report that details allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo. We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA’s values.”
