Destiny 2: Forsaken’s raid will not have a hard mode

Destiny 2: Forsaken’s Last Wish raid is the best the series has ever had, but it appears that it won’t be evolving like some other raids before it. Bungie announced Thursday in its weekly blog that it will not release a hard mode — traditionally called “Prestige” difficulty in Destiny 2 — for the new raid. This is a first for the Destiny franchise.

The raid team said in the blog post that its intention was always to build a single difficulty for Last Wish, but to make it more rewarding than previous raids. The goal was to create a raid that was the “definitive version” from day one.

This news comes only a few weeks after the raid was first beaten — a feat that took the first groups 19 hours to accomplish. While Last Wish is undoubtedly the hardest raid that Bungie has ever created for Destiny, some players are already pretty disappointed with the announcement that no greater challenge is on the way.

The Last Wish raid may not have a hard mode coming, but players did recently discover a wish in the raid that activates a new difficulty called “Petra’s Run.” In this raid variant, the death of any team member will kick the entire raid crew back to orbit, forcing everyone to start from the beginning.

Unfortunately, it seems that the only reward for completing this challenge is an in-game achievement. However, there are still two hidden wishes in Forsaken, which could potentially unlock even more secrets or challenges within Last Wish. And as the raid team noted, a raid lair is coming in December with the Black Armory content update, the first part of Forsaken’s Annual Pass.
